At the Humber Football Academy our philosophy is simple Football Without Fear. We want our players to make mistakes we want our players to take risks. Trying to do the right thing regardless of the consequences is the way we believe Young Players will progress. Our belief is that the ball should be at the heart of all Coaching Sessions, this is something that many countries around the world have a greater emphasis on - more Touches, High Intensity.
We believe in maintaining a Player to Coach ratio of no more than 6 Players for Every 1 Coach. This way we can give your child the coaching time they need during our Small Group Sessions.
All sessions are Coached by Mike & Phil - we do not use other Coaches.
The Humber Football Academy have three core principles to maximise Player Development;
SKILL - We teach you and give you all the help you require to develop your skills that will help you in your game.
TECHNIQUE - We give Players the feedback on their technique to help them improve. Using Video, we can look at aspects such as Body Shape, Weight Transfer, Position of the Feet & more.
CONFIDENCE - Every part of training we undertake is Positively Reinforced; we give you the confidence to play Football Without Fear - we create an environment where players are encouraged to make their Own Decisions & get Maximum Enjoyment out of their Football. They can take the Improvements & Confidence they develop with our sessions back to their Teams.
With over twenty years experience in Grass Roots Football, we see the fantastic work that is done at the entry level of the game.
We also believe that there are restrictions placed on the game which can be detrimental to Players Development;
1. Lack of proper Facilities - many Grass Roots Teams are training in Sports Halls or other poor surfaces for 6+ months of the year.
2. Teams attitude towards Training - many Grass Roots Coaches & Teams either do not train on a regular basis & when they do there can be a lack of Technical Coaching in these sessions. Grassroots Coaches sometimes lack the Coaching knowledge & time to implement sessions to get the best rate of development for their players. At some Grassroots Teams there can be an apathy from some players towards training - messing around, not taking it seriously which can create a poor culture towards Training & Practice.
3. An Emphasis on Matches - There tends to be a culture in this Country regarding attitudes towards Training vs Games. In many South American countries, now adopted in many countries, their emphasis is the opposite - games are played regularly but Training & Practice is twice as frequent if not more. Many Grass Roots Teams will Train 2-3 times a week & play only one game every two weeks up to age 11 years.
We agree with this concept & want to provide specific sessions catered for the participants to allow them to develop without having the Fear about disappointment of defeats, making mistakes, getting shouted at - Football Without Fear. We want to make players who attend our Academy as good as they can be & this usually leads to maximum enjoyment & enables them to play & give their Grass Roots Football Team the benefit of their improvement.
